Valve's team-based shooter Team Fortress 2 may have at least one more gameplay mode left in it, according to the developer's Robin Walker. On top of that, a tenth class is in the works.

You're just going to have to wait a while to see what that tenth class — previously teased in a Left 4 Dead Easter egg — might be, especially since Walker tells the Escapist ""We've got several new class designs floating around, some of which we like a lot." Valve has to get the rest of the class updates — and those Xbox 360 version changes! — out first, with the Scout currently on deck for a revamp.

Even more changes are coming to TF2, according to Walker, including "some riskier, and hopefully more fun, design choices in the near future." The last gameplay mode Valve added, "Payload," was partially a result of fan requests, something Walker says the developer looks to for inspiration.

Walker dishes some heavy hints on what those might be — hello, massive Engineer changes — but you'll have to read the entire interview to find out what they are.

this will be... interesting.

To say the least. To me this sounds absolutely retarded and like they just plan to ruin it as a fortress game even more. I wish people still played ETF... These weapon upgrades are one thing (at least they will be out for each character and then hopefully balance classes out) but adding a new class... argh...

They applied lessons learned from the ongoing development of TF2 to Left 4 Dead and have even brought back some ideas from the latter to potentially implement in TF2.

With Left 4 Dead now launched, the team is once again turning its attention to future TF2 updates. The Scout is the next class slated for the special treatment, and Walker expects the update will be available early this year. Additionally, the team is juggling a number of side projects at the moment, including finally bringing a year's worth of the downloadable content and upgrades to the Xbox 360 version of the game. A new Payload map is in the works, more community maps are on the way and the team will soon unveil a very different new game mode.

Well, this sounds a bit stupid... I mean, updating all the classes... we saw that coming, they are pretty much insured fans for another year because of that. And saying there might be a 10th class will get people agitated. TF2 isn't TF2 with 10 guys... there's no equality then. The engineer thing that we all got was a must... it was the idea that floated on whether or not to do it. It was the idea we all saw coming. Anyways, enough of this rant. However the game turns, I'll still play it. ^^

lulz, its just gonna be a civilian, for the escort maps, gg play tfc

I thought about this (when it first came out I literally said to my friends "Where the hell is the civilian?") but I don't know if they could actually do this, plus they have already ruined the fortress base game. But expanding on what I said I feel that most people would just get incredibly pissed, if after all this hype they released the civilian, and end up leaving TF2. Plus it wouldn't sell anymore games since it would pretty much be a joke.

that would be fucked up. -or- they would make it free for the current owners of tf2. but for who buys it, they ahve to pay for every update from medic to the new ones...
separate from teh tf2 pack. pay them 1 by 1 or full pack

10th class in tf2 me thinks, shows in l4d on a box of cereal. Collect all ten figures and they're tf2 figures, me thinks it's the vip.
