Alright, I got myself a lot of money in the mail recently, so I'm putting some of it toward a new computerbecauseivehadthisoneforalmost6yearslol.

Keep in mind I know almost nothing about computers.

Budget: ~$1000 USD, maybe a bit more.

What I have so far: Monitor, operating system, keyboard, case, and mouse.

Only requirements I can think of is 8+ RAM, other than that, go nuts. Thanks. <3

Sorano, you glorious bastard. Thank you so much! :D

Here go.
Used most of Sorano's bits, changed a few things. Different sellers and parts saves you about ~$120.

The point of the M.2 SSD was to eliminate another cable that would have otherwise been present in his system. That alone plus the minor boost in bandwidth was more than enough to warrant the extra money spent on the device, even if it was $30.

Here is my rebuttal. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/s9nXpg

Fair enough.

I don't think he'll be able to tell the difference between the RAM, though. Saves him $10.

Also the PSU I put in is fully modular. Cables shouldn't really be a problem.

Well, anytime that I can fit it the parts that I have used, I do it. I use that exact memory kit in my rig at home at it has performed flawlessly.

Blue to match his LED http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f31866c9d8gab

Black: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f314900cl9d8gbsr

Both are 1866 instead of 1600 and are still cheaper than yours.

LED on the fan that supposedly came with the fan.

SPEAKING OF FANS

I added a cheap 4-pack, assuming you didn't buy any other ones.

I checked, your mb supports quote, 4 x Chassis Fan connectors.

He doesn't really have a lot of heat-generating hardware in the system so a large number of fans would only serve to increase the noise and amount of dust in his system. Even with only two fans, there will be some noticeable noise. One on the side and one on the rear will be more than enough. If he can invert his PSU so that it intakes its own air then the system airflow can be streamlined further.

If you feel like getting your hands dirty, Flippy, I would recommend cutting out the little slats on the side of the panel for the fan mount and then replace it with a 120mm fan grille to better the airflow. You can do this with a dremel or similar tool and then smooth out the cut with a set of files and a tiny bit of nail polish remover on a Q tip.

If you wait for a few more days, they should be listing the new Z97/USB3.1 boards from ASUS. USB 3.1 will offer double the bandwidth of 3.0 and is expected to replace Thunderbolt for data transfer.... at least until they double the bandwidth for Thunderbolt.
