After 19 straight drawings with no winners, the Powerball jackpot has surpassed a billion dollars, breaking the U.S. record. Even after the government and others take their portions, you'll still have Approx. $868 Million.

CNN put out an article describing what big name companies you could buy with his large sum of money (http://money.cnn.com/2016/01/11/investing/powerball-jackpot-companies-billion/index.html?iid=hp-stack-dom)

  • Avon (AVP): $1.2 billion. Ding-dong, new ownership calling!
  • La-Z-Boy (LZB): $1.1 billion. Sit back, put your feet up and relax ... in any chair you want. You own them all!
  • U.S. Steel (X): $1 billion. Cue Hyman Roth from "The Godfather: Part II." With Powerball, you're bigger than U.S. Steel.
  • Select Comfort (SCSS): $1 billion. I've got your Sleep Number right here! 1.3 billion smackeroos.
  • Pep Boys (PBY): $999 million. Icahn just won a bidding war with Bridgestone for the auto parts chain. Care to top his offer?
  • Caesars Entertainment (CZR): $972 million. See if you can run a casino company better than Donald Trump did!
  • KB Home (KBH): $928 million. Who needs to buy a house when you can own a company that builds them?
  • Red Robin Gourmet Burgers (RRGB): $812 million. Yes. You can have bottomless steak fries with that.
  • Lands' End (LE): $750 million. That's a lot of sweaters.
  • Crocs (CROX): $672 million. Raise prices on those plastic shoes just because you can ... and make Mario Batali sweat.
  • Barnes & Noble (BKS): $662 million. Face it. You'll have a lot of free time to drink coffee and read books after you retire.
  • Men's Wearhouse (MW): $585 million. Fire the current management team and bring back George Zimmer!

Pretty interesting to see what this much money can buy you.

1 in 292 million odds. Nice

My cousin gave 2 lottery tickets to my sister and I and I really wish he had not.

It is very interesting to hear that you are far more likely to get killed on your way to buy a ticket than to win the jackpot. Especially how lots of Americans buy lots of this "idiot tax" and continue year after year...

Is it me... or does anyone else think that once you win the lottery... you'll probs end up dead in a month or so... no? Oh... well... it is a little hard to believe and shit... but still...

Anyways, just buy a ticket or two if you can. Why risk not winning it? It would be dumb not to play with literally the largest jackpot in history.

One ticket will probably have very little to no negative affect since they only cost $2 each, but you know there are ludicrous people who spend thousands of dollars buying lottery tickets on the illusion of becoming a millionaire.

At this point a rich guy could just buy up every ticket combination and guarantee a profit. 292,201,338 possibilities * $2 per play is $584,402,676; prize after taxes is estimated to be about $870,000,000. RIP if you do that and end up splitting it with someone though.
