Upgrade to the Z77 ASUS line. It will allow for better graphics utilization of both the iGPU and your Radeon GPU. Also, use an Ivy Bridge CPU and go for the 7XXX line if you want AMD GPU.

Kingston HyperX SSD's have a very high perfomance. I'd go with one of them if I were you and a WD Caviar Blue drive for storage. I'm partial to WD because I have yet to see one fail.

I was thinking about changing to the Z77, but I didn't know it would be better or not.
And for the Kingston was this the on you were talking about? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6820239049
I haven't heard of WD CB before but ill check them out and edit this post after I have read some reviews and what not.
Thanks!

I'd get a WD Caviar Black instead of the Deskstar. Never heard of Deskstar and too many bad reviews..
And i just checked Newegg. Some of the stuff are lower on Newegg and the CD Drive, just get some 15$ one. No need to spend more than 20$.

Yes, hitachi's are known to fail.

Also I recommend a modular PSU, cleaner and easier to set up.

I've listed together a Sabertooth Z77 build in that same case for 1595, minus software.

Damn, your build looks pretty solid. Should be fun, goodluck.

I would probably get the 850 watt PSU from corsair though, for later upgrades/overclocking.

Edit: Or ditch the SSD, and get a 7xxx series GPU

SSD's are a must if you want good performance. They are easier and more reliable to maintain. Just keep that mechanical for storage.

And until he does upgrade to a 7-series board and Ivy-Bridge chip, the gains from a 7XXX Radeon will be marginal at best. Even though the odds of fully saturating the available bandwidth to that card are minimal, PCIe 3.0 uses a communication protocol that has less overhead, so more bandwidth available to the card aside from the doubling of the base throughput. So having to use a 2.x interface will more than double the protocol overhead and reduce the efficiency of the card. In other words, less performance per watt of power consumed.

Though I wonder why he is not updating, I got him to get a Seasonic PSU, Nvidia 670, Z77 MSI board, 3570K, and a Samsung (reliable) SSD.

In any case, though what you've said is 100% correct, this generation of ATI GPU's are just bad in comparison to Nvidia's offerings in price:performance.
