An SMP server suggestion

So I was thinking about how our SMP server would work, and our plan (or lack thereof) for it, and it hit me that something like this, would never work and continue to be entertaining on such a massive scale that is intox. Phraggah tells me that we may just start new maps when we get bored, or simply stop dieing enough for it to be considered "survival". That would get very boring after a while, in all honesty.

Then I thought of something rather silly, but entirely workable: A system like feudalistic Europe.

The basic idea of how it would work is total anarchy. PvP enabled, and the first group of settlers travels at least a day's walk in any direction. From there, each person or group of 2-3 sets camp, and builds up from there. Little kingdoms in their own domain. Reasonable borders can be established along with laws of the land.

Someone would remain behind and build up something for players to spawn inside so as not to be immediately killed by hoards of creepers, but nothing more than that. Players can from there (after gathering enough to set out) either set up their own domain and risk being hostile to others, or join up with a friendly "kingdom" and work there.

Mobile spawn points are a must. Only newbies should need to spawn at the start. However, spawn placements should be limited to one only, unless given extras by an admin or something.


And that's my little idea. We won't have to continually change maps, and politics might be fun :3


EDIT:

So we discussed this in vent a little, and the general consensus is to not have total anarchy pvp, but rather a scheduled pvp "destroy cycle", where, every weekend at a certain time, PvP will be enabled. Otherwise, it's just survival build, during which you can stock up on ammo and tnt and such.

That could be lots of fun. Also I'm pretty sure we already have the one teleport thing covered, as you can use /sethome, then use /home to go to you're home, or /spawn to go to the default spawn (not sure if we're removing it or if it's broken with hey0)

This would not be a bad idea. You can just build an adamantite spot around the spawn so you can't get out of it and just put teleports in there to the kingdoms. Disable /spawn of course so people couldn't revisit to easily get to the other kingdoms. Once you spawn you have to make a choice of what side to choose. You can have 2 sides to start and each one builds its own base. And then find and siege the other type thing. Could possibly work.

Its funny you said total anarchy but then put down some rules. There is no reason anyone would follow those rules. It would be very easy to kill people, the whole kingdoms thing is easily destroyed by just one person on an empty server night. (in addition agutrtot, you just have to die to get to spawn, and spawn is not exact, you spawn in an area around spawn, and wtf do you do about new players who spawn inside a box?)


I think this might be possible once we get a good pop going and bring people around, but to start not so much. In addition, we havent had the chance to stress test the servers to see what they can take. Most have a hard time just keeping up with mobs and players, let alone huge maps.

The type of game you are proposing with just a few a people would be pretty stupid, would need a decent pop or at least a population at all times on the server. It would be too easy to raid a castle when the server is empty. Other holes include laws of the land. Laws need enforcers, and with 2-3 people per kingdom no law will be easily enforced, or really enforced at all. Also how would they be enforced, Whats the worse you could do to someone? kill them? o no, you killed me! but all the stuff i stole from you is hidden where you will never find it.

I would be willing to try something like this but not on a massive, huge map scale. Also, pretty sure once this got going, most of the core intox. people would form an alliance and scare any newbs away from the server.

Since this server is really only public within intox, and the majority of players will be playing construct, I don't see why our SMP can have something of the sort.

The absolute *worst* that could happen is the exact same outcome as if we didn't have a rule set like this in place.

Also, I doubt anyone real non-regular would join the servers at the present time, and so that rules out a lot of potential douche-baggotry.

I'm actually quite impressed by this idea, love the whole concept and never actually thought about it. I think this would work great for minecraft as it is pretty much building from the ground up and having your own castle. Hell if we got a server like this i would go and buy minecraft so i could play it. I think this could work but as Zalos said maybe wait a few weeks before starting it so we get some sort of Population so it isn't 1v1.
